@iwasaperson:
Not to be critical, but did you perhaps upload the unfinished version? Your left and right cursors were missing the ALT+Num7 code before them, so they just displayed the numbers instead of arrows.
I also saw some SJIS text when viewing the .cnf with my editor, but it seems these characters to not display in on NTSC PS2. Do they display on yours?

Here is a .cnf that does not display the Browser or System Configuration, menu options. They are still there, but totally black. If or when that becomes an option I'll incorporate it into a similar style .cnf. I also made a bigger font version for those who prefer.
I have also included a few icon screens.
I'll have some more of them in the next few days too.
There is still a ton of things we can figure out with the information already know from what Neme, I and dlanor have provided. Please experiment with these .cnfs and see if you can create a better variation or even something that we have not thought of yet. I know there are enough Japanese speaking members that we could get that one done fairly quickly. Some other styles I have in the works are a pseduo-matrix, and color changing .cnf.

So you are saying you don't even have FMCB installed and you are distributing a .cnf you haven't even tested? That seems a tad premature

No will not, but you can. Just insert the box below before the cursor characters. Without it none of the ALT+Num7 codes would work, since that is exactly what it is.

no, my memory card w/ fmcb broke, i had this cnf for a long time. but bootlegninja said it might be outdated.

Well in a perfect world I'd love to see the range of supported SJIS Japanese double byte characters (hirgana, katagana) in that or a another seperate virtual keyboard, but that may be a bigger project than one man would want, especially if you don't speak Japanese.
What should be more manageable though is to display just the SJIS double byte special characters such as the ones in my "Icon cnfs".
I still have not heard from many people as to whether or not those characters display correctly on all region consoles.
I would ask if you could have some of the people you know with regions other than NTSC-U to test if they display correctly. The most interesting test would be if the Chinese cnf (keeping in mind it still is SJIS encoded) I made displays correctly on a Chinese console.
I would also find it interesting to see if this works with other script based language PS2s, if such exist. (e.g. Arabic, Thai)

I have made a separate thread detailing what SJIS characters can be displayed in the PS2s BIOS as well as the characters that are displayed incorrectly. I do need some help completing the task of testing all of the possible characters still. If you would like to help please post on that thread or PM me about it.
Thanks!
I also have a few ideas I have been exploring for a few new .cnf files. Hope to get them done soon.
