fmcb(1.5,1.6)+hdl=bsod on all my V9
Finally upgraded from old 1.1b to 1.5 for fmcb. Did multi-version install on a card I never had fmcb on yet, only an old ps1 exploit. Use it for hdloader only. Tested it on all my US fat models. (2)V1,V4,(3)V7=all worked, (If I deleted the default CNF file it added)hdl loaded, games launched. (2) V9 [built in IR sensor, super quiet fans]=not work. Hdl loads to game screen, any game I choose to launch yeilds B.S.O.D. Tried with my own dvdelf.bin and with that particular units dvdelf.bin. Tried with the default CNF file and without. Also tried 1.6 with exact same results. Does ANYONE have a version9 (SCPH5001)date code 3c running HDL with fmcb? The old 1.1b worked on ALL my models, but yeilded Japanese text and whatnot. Newer versions will not work with hdl on my V9's. Any ideas?

Did you try to leave a disc in tray (regardless, which kind of I think), when you start the game (even, if it starts from HD)?
If the game starts then, you need another HDL.
HDL needs the V9+-Stop-CDVD-Fix.

This is a strange behaviour I have noticed before. I think after fmcb 1.3 some elf files need a disc in drive to properly work.
HDL won't work without disc unless you use a version which doesn't have the "stop disc spinning" patch.
Swap magic 3.8 or fmcb installer don't run also, you can try them if you want.
It would be great to isolate and find why this behaviour appears and correct it.

I am using a patched version of HDL with the NO DISK SEEK. It is the only way games boot properly for me when using FMCB and HDL. If the S Stop Disk Spinning patch is used, I always get B.S.O.D. I also tried with a disk in the drive, but still nothing happens. Anyway, most of the models I'm using no longer read cd's or dvd's anyway, so It's not going to boot that game if I put it in there. My V9's are the only ones that won't boot games from HDL, though. All my other version do. Does anyone else have a V9 to try? I just noticed the suggestion of the V9+ no disk seek. I don't remember seeing this in hdlpatch_0.8c that I am using. Is it something extra I need?

I checked the hdl page...With 0.8c (that I use) the stop cdvd drive is only to be used when booting from disk(V9 and later), which I am not. Also, the No disk seek was to stop freezing at the splash screen(W/V9 and later) which I haven't experienced.
Also, when I install fmcb1.6, what is the osdmain.elf(1.6mb) in the BAEXEC-system/ folder and can I delete it? I know stupid question, then fmbc won't boot, right? But just asking anyway. Also, what about the boot and boot2 elf's in the BADATA-SYSTEM/ folder. I'm pretty sure the boot2.elf is from my old exploit install, I guess I could delete it...what about the boot.elf. Is it neccessary though? Thank you all in advance!

What you say here is nearly correct as to the purpose of those patches. The "stop cdvd drive" option should be used not only when booting from disc on late model consoles, but also when booting with a disc in tray, even if that disc is not booted. This is to prevent the laser from being used (wearing it out) while you are playing games from HDD.
On consoles older than v9 you can supposedly use the "stop cdvd drive" option regardless of tray contents, as that apparently doesn't cause any bad effects (like it would for a later model when tray is empty). But personally I always have a disc in the tray anyway.

That is the main boot file of FMCB, and if you used Multi-Version Install there would seem to be 21 more files in there of the same kind. In fact those use the same file sectors though, so the 21 'copies' don't take any extra storage space.
Only if you want to lose FMCB functionality.

Exactly.

These have nothing to do with FMCB.

Although FMCB does support searching for some standard applications in the B?DATA-SYSTEM folder, that is only a kind of backwards compatibility support for users of the old exploit. But nothing that FMCB installs is placed in that folder.

You should know that you can use a 75kb file for that, but on non slim models you have to provide the file to fmcb installer (on slim models that file is on the bios ROM).

is anyone using v9 with mcfb and hdl?
I tried patching my hdloader elf with all different possibilities last night to get v1.5 or 1.6 of fmcb working with hdl on my V9 consoles. Still nothing I do will successfully launch a game from hdl when I use fmcb 1.5 or 1.6 on my V9. The old 1.1b (the only other version I've messed with) does work with my V9 and hdl, the newer ones do not. Can anyone verify for a fact the newer versions will work with hdl and V9 console? It will load to game screen, but launching any games yields black screen of death. Any older version consoles don't have this problem, only my V9 ones...Thank you all for the replies and explanations.

Which version? 1.5 or 1.6? 1.1b works on my V9, not the newest ones. Did you make ANY changes to the cnf to get it work?

There has been a fix for NTSC V9's in the next release, so hopefully it will also fix all V9s. Just hang tight, the release will come any day now.

1.7 still gives B.S.O.D. w/hdl and V9
Does anybody know why the newer versions(1.5/1.6/1.7) don't work with a V9 usa console booting hdl? Using the same HDLOADER.ELF works with my V9 with fmcb 1.1b but gives japanese text...Using this same HDLOADER.ELF with any of the newer versions(1.5-1.7) loads hdl to game selection screen, but gives B.S.O.D. when you try to launch any game on V9. Works with any older version fat console, though. What changed between 1.1b and 1.5 that would cause this? Is this a know problem? Is this a fixable problem? Just looking for some real answers, thanks!

When did you download FMCB?
Jimmi made a few fast updates and fixes in the beginning and re-uploaded FMCB to the fist post in Release-thread.
Maybe you should try to re-download.
It MIGHT fixes your problem.
But it also might not.
I don't know sorry.

Im gonna take a stab at it and say its the HDL core patches that were selected in the patch app that are the cause. I have been using the same HDLv0.8c and even patched a new one using the same patches when i made the Free McBoot skin for it and dont have an issue on my V9 NTSC console with FMCB 1.7.
The only Core Patches i enable are:
Bigger Game list
LBA 48bit patch
Compatibility options update
