Memory Card Compatability?

After discovering Free MCBoot, I decided that I might want a larger memory card, so I went online and ordered a 32MB third-party one.
It came today, and my PS2 reccognizes it fine, but after installing FMB on it, it doesn't work. If it's in either slot, my PS2 just turns on to a blank screen (no logo or anything).

Is there limited compatability for which memory cards will work with FMB?

Normal installation only for you console need ~260kb.I have 64mb card and I don't have any problems.Remove your memory card and enter the PS2 browser, then insert your card and delete the save(if you choose for installation "Normal Install" not "Multi Install"

This might actually by my problem.

Mine is a cheap-o chinese one from DX. And I just noticed that burried in the FAQ at the end of the installation tutorial, it says "{chineese clones do not work!}"

I may just not be able to run Free MCBoot on this card. Unless an updated version provides support...

i think the installer verifies the written file to the memcard during install. it it passes - your memcard should be ok.

you are probably missing the extra files (BOOT.ELF), you have to put into installer folder (read the guide in the archive).

It definitely wasn't that. I checked beforehand. I even used he same USB drive that I did to isntall fmb on my other card.

That thread looks like it does pertain to the problem I'm having, Vsub. I'm having some trouble getting mcid.elf to run correctly, though...

EDIT: I'll post the problem I'm having over here, too, for posterity:

I'm trying to follow lujuris' directions to get the correct Memory card ID, but I'm having some problems.

When I run mcid.elf, with my Chinese MC in the mc0 slot, I get this for output:
Quote:
IOP reset and update with ron0:EELOADCNF OK.
REading dumped massVDELF.bin...
The value of filesize is 75104

The Value of region is 0155
done.

IOP reset and update with REPLACE.IMG OK.

SecrDownloadFile start
SecrDownloadFile: failed

Going to sleep... byebye...

And no mcid.bin file appears on my flash drive.

Anyone have an idea why I get the "SecrDownloadFile: failed" error?
