NOT ON YOUR LIFE. I don't think you can get a tv that supports pal in the US at all, I have personally never seen one. Since NTSC is a better system (well, it has a faster framerate and higher resolution, anyway)
|
NTSC having higher resolution than PAL...? Where did you get that idea ?
You're right about the framerate of course, which reduces interlace flicker in NTSC as compared to PAL, but when it comes to resolution you've got it backwards.
NTSC and PAL both have approximately equal horizontal resolution, as the NTSC scanline period is appx 63.5 microseconds, while the PAL scanline period is exactly 64 microseconds. But the vertical resolution of PAL is far superior to NTSC, as a complete PAL frame (two interlace frames) has 100 scanlines more than the corresponding NTSC frame.
The only aspect where NTSC can be said to have higher resolution than PAL is in the colour modulation, as successive PAL scanlines interact with each other thus 'smearing' the colour information vertically. But that is just a side effect of the real purpose of that method, which is to cancel out colour distortion due to phase variations. So effectively this too improves the perceived picture quality.
Best regards: dlanor

I stand corrected, although I sort of remember something about the picture being boxed a bit on the old mayflash, and then there is that Y offset when patching up a pal games vmode, I suppose that makes sense. Has this always been the case? It would appear that pal has new formats that I'm unfamiliar with, I haven't lived outside the US since 1990, or so, it's been awhile since I cared one way or the other.
I'd still be willing to bet that if we were to try any 3 of the big reatail electronics sellers, that we would not find a dual mode tv, and I'd bet they won't be able to even special order one, if they even know one way or the other, that is, if that information is even available in the brochures or on the boxes, if any do support pal, it won't appear as a sales point.
Try shopping for a cellphone with me, I have but one non-negotiable requirement, that it has a jack for an external antenna (it seems that I have an uncanny ability to pick deadspots), and believe me, the sales people NEVER know one way or the other, at least Walmart has those demos attached by cables that I can examine myself, anyplace else I'd have to start opening packages. I usually end up educating the sales reps when I shop, they'll persist at trying to help, but they'll always need to be educated a bit before they can even hope to comprehend what I'm looking for, and why, but if they get enough background to get a general idea, they'll give up at that point. I've found myself needing a new dvd burner, try, I dare you, to shop with 8mb of buffer being the primary mitigating factor. I sort of gave up on that and ordered the cheapest one I could get, as a temporary measure, finding one with a real buffer looks like it will consume more time than I can spare. Failing that, since I got the cheapest one, I'm willing to see if simply swapping out the buffer chip with my soldering iron is a viable option. If that works, though, I might be the first kid on the block with a burner that has 32mb of buffer, wouldnt that be cool?

Afaik, there is only 1PAL-Mode.
I never heard of a modified version and PAL60 isn't a real PAL (well, there is an extended TV-Standard called "PALplus").
PAL:
Resolution: 625Lines ("720*576"Pixel) @exact 25fps@50Hz
I know a few different "NTSCs", while this should be the standard:
(Common) NTSC:
Resolution: 525Lines ("720*480"Pixel) @ 29,97fps (color)/30fps (black and white)@59,94/60Hz.
486Lines visible, 480Lines used mostly.
Rest is for sync-, Picture-Reconstruction, subtitles,...
There are also some NTSC-"Standards". like with 24fps, or something around 23.9fps (because movies in cinema have 24fps.).
But I doesn't uses this by myself, so I couldn't tell ya.
Btw.: Most PAL-TVs, which are capable of running in 60Hz, also can show NTSC (sometimes with color).
So we have a few TVs, that support both standards.
Btw.2.: I think, we're getting too off-topic.

Three simple steps for a better life:
First step: deleting the argon crap.
Second step: Forgetting you and your arrogance.
Third step: ignoring your comments.
Rgds.

@Fatman222 & TnA
Thanks and don't worry, I'm having fun, mostly, cause the idiocy levels around here are pretty alarming indeed.

I think Argon is one of the most known applications (and also still under development ).
Don't think about it too much.
The time you may waste, is better used in new time for devin'.
(...or other things.)
I think they tried your app, because they find it interesting.

Hi, I´m new here, I don´t want to fight or hurt anyone.
I use Argon since a little weeks and I think is a good option to play movies in PS2, specially mp4 files, but I have a few questions:
Settings option is only available with network adapter (network connection)?
Is there a way to play h.264 movies, or is gonna be?
Is there a way to read multiple usb drives or just one at time?
Well I think that are all my doubts until now, I hope you can help me with that.

Peace.
> Settings option is only available with network adapter (network connection)?
Yes, but it just allows you to edit the configuration file in the browser.
> Is there a way to play h.264 movies, or is gonna be?
Only if EEUG adds the decoder and makes the source available. Or someone makes a h.264 decoder library (don't point me towards ffdmpeg/mplayer, I'm not gonna touch it with a ten foot pole), and that won't be very fast anyways, as unlike EEUG I have no idea what all that assembler stuff is about.
> Is there a way to read multiple usb drives or just one at time?
Same here.

I would like to complement you for the amazing work you have done. I've been using argon for the past couple of weeks and spread the word to other portuguese PS2 owner and the feedback is very positive and exciting.
I hope develpoment of argon continues and fell free to drop me an email if you need more beta testers.
Keep up the excelent work.

i doubt it. it's quite cpu and memory intensive process, and ps2 might simply not handle it.

Hi jvhellraiser !
1.) Argon is based of the great SMS Mediaplyer from EEUG (i think around SMS 2.0)
2.) Yes of course Argon is Software for the PS2 System
3.) here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/argon-ps2/ (you´ll need the .elf, the xml and the .pak file in one Folder on your MC / USB / HDD
4.) it plays movies like the SMS have done in around Version 2.0
5.) because of the work in progress, the SMS Player is better in some cases for playing movies, but with argon you´ve more possibility´s (shoutcast-radio, online weather, jpg viewer) and a really nice interface...
just check it out
greets
Fatman

I have some sugestions!
Could there be a sound when you move the XMB like the PS3 has (SMS has it too if you change it in the start menu)?
To be able to make a background would be great!
That is all, the app is great, but I don't use it much because is still beta and the loading time is slow!
Keep up the good job!
