What does cogswap do?

I found out about this cogswap, and i saw online that it does not work for all ps2 games , is this real, shall i just buy swap magic?

It's better to use Swap Magic rather than Cog Swap but modchip is the best choice

I use Cogswap more than i do SwapMagic and have never had a game not work due to the application itself, but due to a poor reading of the disc from a dirty lens or disc that caused a disc read error.

SwapMagic has features and options not offered by Cogswap, but in no way from my experience is better in compatibility of games it can load.

Afaik cog swap is just the name of the method involving changing the disc without pressing the eject button, which is done by moving a piece of the drive called cog (thus the name cog-swap).

There are several free apps to make cog-swap. Cog-swap loader by hermes, zoneloader (never really tried it), and cdloader, which is useful because game that doesn't work with SM boot with it (using cdloader is an "official" soulution that swap magic web page offers). cdloader even allows to boot ntsc games on pal (and I suppose vice versa) with correct display, and other options.

CDloader was even used to fix soul calibur 2 running from hdloader, dunno if other games worked with that, as the fix was included in some hdlpatch version.

CogSwap is the only program that I use to play backups, but now I have a HDD so it's kinda useless now, since I can plug the HDD in the computer and use WinHIIP to backup anything except PSX discs...
