Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have answered all my questions regarding the best method to boot apps from the memory card. I followed the first half of your tutorial up until about 1:30AM last night using ExectFTP and after a few coasters it finally worked. I'll finish the rest when I get back from work but as you said, the hardest part was getting ExectFTP to work and now I have no worries. I like your tutorial the best so far. I find it to be simillar to installing Evolution X on the xbox. This post needs to be turned in to a sticky right now!
Thank you for your time and effort for creating this tutorial. It is greatly appreciated.
NMX.

Currently there is no way to save ps2 games on anything other than a memory card. But what you can do is transfer the save to something else (pen drive, computer, hard drive) after it is on there using ps2menu or any other program you would like.

I just stickyed the thread. I read your tutorial about a month ago & it is a very good tutorial. I do have an unmodified PS2. I usually transfer my programs thru X-Port since most programs are small enought to fit on mem card & I have a PS2 with a HDD & PS2MENU running (PS2MENU running by use of PS2 Indy Exploit) & I use PS2MENU to transfer progs from mem card to HDD.
I do have a router/ethernet for my PC & the network adapter for PS2, I just haven't taken anytime yet to correctly set up the connections between PS2 & PC.
BTW: The reason why I use X-Port to put prog's on my mem card & then transfer them from mem card to HDD using PS2MENU is because I don't like using the knife trick cause I don't want to stick a knife into my PS2.
All in All, a good tutorial for people using the knife tricks/swap tricks.

I did the exact same thing picture shows. I burnt the image with Nero it boots fine in my PS2 then pops up a message saying "Error: could not load TITLE.DB"! Please fix your tutorial, it's not even working.

easier way is just to burn ps2menu to a cd...with your files.

Thanks a lot for this tutorial. There are lots of programs, but few of them did a very good job on documenting, and people just look these interesting programs, but have no idea to install it on their own PS2, and some of them have to spend lots of time read the post and search different sites to find the answer.
Hope we can more this kind of tutorial. Thanks again

ExectFTP - can't get it working
I'm having major problems getting this program to run.
I followed the link; http://lookatthemonkeys.com/html/ps2tut.html#C2
..is this a problem:
I don't have any PS1 game, only PS2 games.. (originale) ?
Also I can't seem to find any SLUS files on my originale games.
Would be nice to dl a ExectFTP.iso of this program. Anyone ?

Since the tutorial deals with the PS2 Independence Exploit, you will need a PS1 game to be able to use the exploit. The exploit needs a PS1 game because the exploit cause a buffer overrun to occur in the PS1 driver & this only occurs with when the PS2 is playing a PS1 game. SLUS files are only for PS1 games.
PS2 games will not be able to make the exploit work. You can get PS1 games really cheap. For example, you can order PS1 games from Amazon.com Marketplace, EBAY, et al for really cheap. For example, I use the PS1 game called Driver to trigger the exploit & right now, it can be purchased used from Amazon.com Marketplace for around $2.00 before S&H is added.

I loaded up a ba-ck-up of tekken3. And it showes:
BOOT = cdrom:\TEKKEN3\SCES_012.37;1
EVENT = 10
STACK = 801FFFF0
..so this is no good. (?)

According to Mr. Brown (the author of PS2 Independence Exploit), you have to use an original PS1 game cd, backups will not work.

Just stick the network config cd that came with your network adapter into the ps2, have and have it to a test or something (you shouldnt even need to do that). Then log onto your router and see what the IP is. Your gateway should be the same as mine.
