BIOS Swapping on a PS2????
I just read a post that mentioned this in passing, what's up?
I've been around this forum enough years to know about searching first, but I'm having some trouble with my search engine going straight to "wait 60 seconds", without searching anything. I've diversified my hobbies, though, and I've fallen woefully behind here, and you all have done so much wonderful work, it's all I can do now to just catch up, nowdays, so some help here would be hot.
We can run an alternate bios, now, can we? Not to ask for anything for nothing, my reason for being so interested is that I dumped the bios from my old DTL-H30001 "debugging console", back when I had one of those, and as far as I know, I have the ONLY one of those ever dumped.
Clue me in on how this is done (or link me to the right thread, I can read), and anyone interested in screwing with it can pm me an email adress, and I'll attach a copy of that sucker, now THIS HAS POSSIBILITIES..........

There are a couple different versions of the debug machine dumped, but you still won't be able to flash the bios chip. you would need to physicly replace the chip. And in theory it will work, but the large differences in hardware might prevent it.
(someone please correct me if i'm wrong.)

Interesting. I trust that DMCBUDMAN got it working. he's been around too long to lie like that.

What DMCBUDMAN did was simply dump the bios files from a Version 9 and load a few of them via LaunchELF, but as soon as the ELF makes any bios calls, it's back to using the rest off the V7 bios and not the memcard. nothing special here.
I believe you could swap the bios chips and if you have the Official SDK also flash the chip while running Deci2, however the debug bios by default looks for more ram that is available in the retail PS2 but last I checked, the Debug bios have a command that you can set the mode to retail and limit it's access to that of a Retail unit.
Never done it, but it would certainly be cool if you succeeded. just be forewarned that without the Debug unit running it's Deci2 client, you won't be able to flash back to a Debug if you flash it with a Retail Bios!!!

ZanQuance, you're wrong, the devkit is the only ps2 hardware with a flashable bios, no way you can do that on a debug ps2...

Forgive me, as when I say Debug unit, I am referring to the Dev Units.
